An Appeal for Aid in the Wake of Hurricane Harvey

Beloved Brothers and Sisters in the Lord!

Homes destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.
Destruction in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The Lord has visited upon us a test of our faith through the fearsome, deadly storm that befell the states of Texas and Louisiana within our diocese.

Thanks be to the Lord God, neither of our churches in Houston, St. Vladimir’s and St. Jonah’s, suffered damaged, but certain of our parishioners lost everything.

I was uncertain whether to personally travel to Houston to visit the victims or not, but decided that such a trip would distract and detract from the work of recovery; I am thus unable to personally witness to the situation in Houston.

At the same time, our diocese is working together with the IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) to bring aid to the victims. Those who wish to contribute may donate through IOCC or directly via our diocesan treasurer, Mr Andrei Urtiev, at the below address:

Diocese of Chicago
P.O. Box 1367
Des Plaines, IL 60017.

May the Lord reward the benefactors a hundredfold.

With Love in the Lord,

+ Peter,
Archbishop of Chicago and Mid-America
