A Missionary Monastic is Sent from Jordanville to the Caribbean

Under the patronage of St Job of Pochaev, the monastics of Holy Trinity Monastery have always been involved in missionary labors ranging from the publication of spiritual literature to active missionary work “in the field.” Currently, the monastery is involved with mission churches in the Philippines, South Korea, Nicaragua, Grenada, Trinidad, and Jamaica, thus actively fulfilling Christ’s command to “baptize all nations.”

Throughout June 2025, a series of landmark events in the history of the Jamaican mission took place with the tonsure and ordination of the first native Jamaican priest-monk.  At the end of Small Compline on the feast of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Saints Constantine and Helen (May 21st / June 3rd), Bishop Luke of Syracuse tonsured the mission’s founder, Moses Myers, into the lesser schema with the name of Constantine. Over the next several weeks, the monastery’s abbot ordained Fr Constantine to the Diaconate (Holy Spirit Day, May 27 / June 9) and the Holy Priesthood (June 2 / 15). After completing a period of liturgical training, Hieromonk Constantine will return to his native Jamaica to continue the missionary efforts he first began over ten years ago.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Dear brother, Father Constantine, you have come to commit your life with promises and vows to our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ. You will have as your heavenly protector the Equal-to-the-Apostles King Constantine, who through his zeal and love for Christ preserved, confirmed, and spread the Holy Faith. This Faith we embrace, and this Faith sustains us. St Constantine was inspired by his holy mother St Helen, who also is equal to the apostles, and known for her piety, and her spreading of the faith. She too will be a guide and patron for your work. You have given promises to the Lord as a monastic to either remain here in the monastery, or to be sent out under obedience. You will be sent, with God’s help, to preach the Word of the Lord to the people in the country from whence you have come to us.

This is a very high, apostolic, important, and soul-saving obedience which has been given to you. Remember that the people that surround you in your home country need to be united to the Holy Church — to the Church of,  “one Lord, one faith and one baptism” (Eph. 4:5). All of those outside this Body need to be united to it, which is the holy will of God. This will be the obedience that you must fulfill with humility and wisdom. Turn to your heavenly patron, who did much to spread the word of God and to preserve our Holy Church. The Lord will help you, through the intercessions of the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine, his mother, St Helen, and of all the saints, to continue going forward in this high calling.

Many dangers lay ahead for you in this mission, but everything can be overcome if you remember to turn to the Lord in all things. Turn to Him for everything! Turn to His Holy Mother, to your patron, and to all the saints. Turn to them with your whole heart and soul, remembering that without them, you can do nothing (cf. Jn. 15:5). If you forget this, even for a short period of time, you will be left to your own devices. And this is a terrible thing — to be left alone. But with God’s help, if you remember that whenever you are troubled, whenever your soul is in a state of indecision, not knowing what to do next, humbly and fervently turn to the Lord. Turn to the saints, turn to heaven — and wait! Wait for an answer and remember the Scripture, “in much counsel, there is salvation” (cf. Prov. 11:14). Do not forget us, your brothers! We are here for you. You are going out of this monastery, which is a missionary monastery under the protection of the great missionary, St Job of Pochaev, who dedicated his life to preserving and spreading the Holy Orthodox Faith, bringing to the Church those people who had gone astray. You are sent to do the will of God, for the same reason for which this monastery was established in order to help, to enlighten the Orthodox people of this land and those who are not yet Orthodox, so that they may too hear the salvific call to salvation in the Church. May the Lord protect you, and help you, and save you with humility and with wisdom. With humility and wisdom you can accomplish this, little by little, step by step. Save yourself in the Lord! Amen.
